Cosmic Love Letters
Poems to the moon, from the sun
this story begins from the heavens.
the sun on the mountain —
dazzling and bright as ever;
meets the moon —
radiating with confidence.
they fall in love.
I compare the day our eyes first met to the Big Bang:
the beginning of everything.
You and I are made of atoms
forged from dying stars and orbiting particles
and yet, through the glittering darkness of the entire, expansive universe
I found you
and
You are my favorite set of atoms
I get this feeling sometimes
like when you hear a song you really like, so you turn the volume up
but I feel it inside of my chest —
I recognize it now as the feeling of my universe,
slowly expanding
to bring your orbit even closer to mine.
the sound of your voice echoes through my galaxy
Your smile has the warmth of ten thousand stars
You feel safe
and it feels like
I’m finally home
